Mark Morford does it again

Dear World: Sorry About Bush

Sorry Everybody has been making the rounds of the net faster than a JibJab parody and I think Mark really get's why it has become so popular:

After all, sorryeverybody.com has broken the cardinal rule of Bush's bitter neocon agenda: no matter what the atrocity, no matter the how grossly botched the war or how insidious the WMD lie or how debilitating the world-record deficit or how brutal the attack on the environment, if there's one thing the GOP simply does not do, it's apologize.

But this is what makes sorryeverybody.com so incredibly effective. It does what no column and no punditry and no news analysis and no Democratic weeping can possibly do, what the Kerry campaign failed to do, what no amount of verbal raging into the Void can manage: it puts a human face on the sadness.

A very real face, families and children, teenagers and the elderly, young couples and homosexuals and many, many disaffected liberal loners who are stuck like sad beacons way out in the middle of the red states and who desperately want the world to know they exist, that they're Americans, too, that they did their best to get the Smirking One out.

I fart in your general direction!

Now that it is official, according to several news outlets, that Rice is the new Secretary of State, I am just going to say a little bit about how fucking stupid that is.

I mean, wouldn't it be quicker and cheaper to just erect a giant foam hand with it's middle finger pointed toward Europe on the White House lawn? This administration knows what a horrible reputation we have with the rest of the world. The intelligent and SANE thing to do would be to promote someone to the position who was not involved in the destruction of our credibility. Instead, he appoints one of the biggest culprets?? The only message that says is that, after all this time, after all the allies we've lost and the utter destruction of any goodwill the rest of the world felt for America, the Bush administration still could not give a flying fuck. They really think that America can sustain itself. That boggles my mind. I know it shouldn't because it's not like they haven't show this in the past. But her appointment cements them as the biggest bunch of jingoistic morons to EVER run this country. EVER!

I would also like to give my opinion of Rice from the female perspective: FUCK HER! Just because you don't have a dick, it doesn't give you a carte blanche to act like one. Woman. Minority. I could give a flying fuck. She is a liar and a cheat and a complete and utter waste of air and space. Anyone who brings up race or gender when someone has something negative to say about her can SUCK. IT! First of all, Republicans going on and on about discrimination would be like me giving diet advice, okay? They hypocricy is so disgusting, I can barely stand it. So I would hope that the Dems that are still left in DC would find wherever it is they have left their balls (or bitchin' bustiers) and step up to the plate. She will get confirmed, we all know this, but they need to be loud and fierce about her horrible, horrible record as NSA. We can no longer sit back and let these criminals get away with all of this CRAP without at least hearing about it from those of us who still have our eyes open to the dangers of this ridiculous administration.

To the left, He said

I get accused sometimes of lumping all Christians together as red state hypocrites and I will admit that my experience with the religious tend to border on nightmare-inducing. Not being a Church person myself, I have a hard time identifying with people who put all their faith eggs in one basket, so to speak, and use that basket to beat me over the head with their beliefs.

That said, I am told that there are those out there who go to church and aren't hypocrites. And I honestly believe that is true. Once I get through the hazy fog of my anger at the several million bad apples that stink up the bushel, I feel bad for the normal Christians. The ones that live their lives as good people and just want to make a positive impact on the word. That is certainly made harder by the Religious Right hijacking Christianity, supposedly owning the patent for values and morals.

I honestly think the Christians on the Left are probably the most important people for the upcoming battles against the zealots. They are going to have to be the ones to speak for The Left if we are going to bring back some of the voters from the Repugs. Moderate Christians that voted for Bush because they felt like they had no choice, that He was the Jesus candidate, will never ever listen to a heathen like me when it comes to politics. It's the rational Christians on the Left who have a chance to make an impact.

So, good liberal Christians, if you are out there, please, do your part. Buy some stuff from these nice people:

Christianity has been hijacked by those who stand for preemptive war, the death penalty, social Darwinism, and tax cuts for billionaires. Now is our chance to fight back and let the world know that there are many Christians who believe our faith stands for the poor, the powerless, and (dare I say) non-Americans. Here is your way of taking a stand against the Religious Right and their anti-Christian agenda.
